Regenerative Agriculture Vision Renderings
This project is featuring an Education center with permaculture demonstration gardens and a plant nursery. The elevation view shows a detail of the Palapa Training center and the tropical food forest area with demo gardens. The detail of the arbor shows a selection of edible and ornamental plants.
I collaborated with organizations such as Maui Tomorrow Foundation, The Sierra Club of Hawaii, Aina First and Just One Organics to create these renderings and expand the vision of what is possible for regenerative agriculture on Maui. The Mālama ‘Āina Report was released to start the conversation about Maui’s Farming Future after the end of the sugar cane operations in 2016.

Mālama 'Āina: A Conversation About Maui's Farming Future
We have the chance to create something sustainable, profitable AND healthy for our ‘āina (land), our ‘ohana (families) and our community. Working with Maui Tomorrow Foundation and Permaculture Design International LLC I created these vision renderings to communicate these ideas and possible solutions that would put Maui on the map as a leader in this holistic approach to agriculture. This is the beginning of a community conversation about the many opportunities for rejuvenation of the agricultural sector of the economy in ways that would be Pono for our environment and people.

A plan view and sections of a courtyard showing a resting place for patients and staff members. Visitors are embraced by lush vegetation in a quiet and peaceful setting. A small water feature provides a subtle natural sound in the garden. I worked on this project with my coworkers team of landscape architects at HGA Architects and Engineers, Minneapolis, MN
Maui Sugarcane Mill Vision Rendering
This vision rendering is presenting the Sugar mill as a hub for all kinds of businesses and activities, such as a coop and permanent farmer’s market, commercial kitchens, restaurants, a Maker’s Space, farm to table restaurants, artist studios, education center, agriculture-tourism etc.
This site used to house an entire company town, complete with movie hall, bowling alley, store, school and more. The old mill buildings all need a complete overhaul, but because they are zoned heavy industrial pretty much any kind of business is allowed there.
Re-imagining this amazing industrial center as a local community resource that serves both our own Maui residents and the hospitality industry shows how we can turn this brownfield site into a beautiful gathering space, and create scores of living-wage jobs at the same time!
